Congratulations to all the awardees and to the Les Dames d’Escoffier Chicago Scholarships for providing this unique opportunities to the awardees to grow and achieve their life dreams. I congratulate Chantiyanna Thigpen most especially for this award. She will, no doubt, use the award maximally to advance her life ambition in culinary profession. Anna, once again, congratulations.

I want to include my support for continuing the McCormick garden and food education program with a reminder that the gardening and recipe instructions we sponsor are, indeed, fighting hunger in an underserved community.

Last week, a former student recognized me downtown in front of the Cook County office building, waving before she gave me a "thumbs" up sign.

"I still love quinoa and salads, she said, adding, "and so does my little sister."

This year, my travel schedule has prevented my participation. Still, I often run into students who are excited about what they have learned and continue to learn about food choices and healthy eating because of our Chicago Chapter's contribution to this very diverse (and well run) organization.

Dear Jen and LDC Board members,

Thank you for the opportunity to make suggestions. I applaud you!

I sound like an echo, but I would be pleased to see the Chapter support something to do with hunger. A soup kitchen, a service like Metropolitan Ministries, that makes sure people have food and are fed for the holidays and at other times, any organization/charity along those lines.

I come from a fundraising background, and it has been my personal experience that it is important that charities continue to seek a variety of supporters. Rather that our Chapter continuing to support one organization, my personal preference would be to provide funding or other resources for a year or even two, and then move on to helping another organization in need. I would suggest we make that clear to the organization/charity in the beginning.
