Dames Who Read is Back with “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus
July 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

After more 40 weeks at the top of The New York Times Book Review list, everyone is talking about this book right now. (I even got a random positive review from a gentleman in the chair next to me at the hair salon!)
From The New York Times: “Feminism is the catalyst that makes LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY fizz like hydrochloric acid on limestone. Elizabeth Zott does not have “moxie”, she has courage. She is not a “girl boss” or a “lady chemist”; she’s a groundbreaker, irresistible, satisfying, and full of fuel. It reminds you that change takes time and always requires heat.”
Our discussion will center on the production of television food shows as well as the struggles to be the “first” or “only” in a role to make them happen. Three of our Dames Who Read, who have many hours of experience in food TV, will lead the conversation, and chances are good that everyone will have some experiences of their own to share in this discussion!
And for summer fun: We are doing this as a potluck at book club regular Dame Kay Ruff’s home in the South Loop. Please think about something you learned from a food TV show, and bring that to share, along with any related stories. Our hostess will provide the spectacular lake view, the H2O and NaCl and do the dishes. You bring a dish and your beverage of choice.
NOTE: Please let Judith know what you intend to bring so that we don’t end up with 20 Boeuf Bourguignons! Email judith@
ALSO NOTE: We have a limit of 20 attendees and registration ends July 10.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 18 from 6-8 p.m.
WHERE: Dame Kathy Ruff’s home
COST: $15 per person; limit of 20 people
REGISTER: Click HERE to sign up by July 10
